We are extremely excited to be able to bring you the opportunity to take your students on a tour of a life time. A trip to Alabama to take in everything it has to offer including visits to the historic towns and city’s of Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma. Visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Visit Brown Chapel, Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Freedom Rides Museum to name a few. We have put together a sample itinerary below but note all tours can be tailor made to suit you.

DAY 1: TRAVEL            

  • Early flight from UK to Atlanta, Georgia (ATL)
  • Arrive in Atlanta
  • Transfer to Birmingham, Alabama (2h 40m)
  • **Option to stop off at Anniston on route to visit the Freedom Rider’s National Monument (30m stop)
  • Arrive at Hotel, check in & dinner – With the stop at Anniston dinner will be around 7:30pm / 8pm

DAY 2:THE BIRMINGHAM CAMPAIGN

  • Walking day – all excursions are within walking distance no more than 10 mins
  • Breakfast at 8am
  • Visit Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (2h visit)
  • There will be time to walk around the city
  • Lunch break (should be around 12 / 12:30)
  • Visit 16th Baptist Church for a tour
  • Kelly Ingram Park (opposite the church)
  • There will be some free time in the afternoon to explore
  • Dinner – Should be around 5:30pm / 6pm

DAY 3: SELMA & THE FIGHT FOR VOTING RIGHTS

  • Breakfast at 7:30am & Check out of Birmingham hotel
  • Visit Bethel Baptist Church (1hr visit)
  • Travel to Selma (2h)
  • Lunch (should be around 12:30)
  • Visit Brown Chapel (1h 30m visit)
  • Free time to explore the town
  • Travel to Montgomery (1hr)
  • Check in & dinner – Should be around 5:30pm / 6pm

DAY 4: MARCHING FOR THE RIGHT TO VOTE

  • Breakfast at 7:30am
  • Travel to Selma (1hr)
  • Visit Selma Interpretive Centre (2hr)
  • Walk to Edmund Pettus Bridge (30m)
  • Lunch (should be around 12)
  • Walk to the National Voting Rights Museum (2hr)
  • Travel along Highway 80 (20m)
  • Visit Lowndes Interpretive Centre (2hr)        
  • Continue back to Montgomery (40m)
  • Dinner – Should be around 5:30pm / 6pm

 DAY 5: THE HOME OF LEADERS & MARTYRS IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Walking day – all excursions are within walking distance no more than 10 mins

  • Breakfast at 8am
  • Visit Legacy Museum (2hr)
  • Visit Rosa Parks Museum (2hr)
  • Lunch (should be around 1pm)
  • Visit Freedom Rides Museum (2hr)
  • Visit Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church (1hr)
  • Dinner – Should be around 5:30pm / 6pm

DAY 6: INTERGRATION & REMEMBERANCE

  • Breakfast at 8am
  • Visit City of St Jude (1hr 30m)
  • Travel on coach (10m)
  • Visit Civil Rights Memorial Centre (2hr)
  • Lunch (should be around 1pm)
  • Travel on coach (40m)
  • Visit Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (1hr 30m)
  • Travel on coach (30m)
  • Visit The Shoppes at Eastchase for free time and dinner in the outlet (should be from 5pm)

 

DAY 7: THE BIRTH PLACE OF DR MARTIN LUTHER KING

  • Breakfast at 7:30am & check out of Montgomery Hotel
  • Travel to Atlanta (2hr 40m)
  • Visit The King Centre & The Martin Luther King Junior National Park (1hr 30m)
  • Lunch (should be around 1pm / 1:30pm)
  • Visit APEX Museum (1hr 30m)
  • Free time to explore from approx. 3pm – 5pm
  • Dinner at Hard Rock Café, Atlanta (at 5pm
  • Depart Atlanta no later than 6:30pm
  • Travel to ATL (20m from HRC)
  • Arrive at airport around 7pm
  • Overnight flight home leaves around 9:55pm
